My 1965 Mustang Coupe
This was taken March '98 in Stephenville, Texas. Although I was given this car
as a parts car, and I have and will use it as such, it could be made serviceable,
and I plan to keep that ability as long as it is feasible. At this point,
though, it would not be worth enough restored to warrant restoration. It is
currently dark blue, although the original color was Springtime Yellow. It has
a black standard interior and the 200cid straight 6 engine. It was originally
an automatic, although it currently has a 3 speed standard transmission. It
also has a front bench seat, although according to the data plate it is not
original.
Under the hood. This is the stock straight six. It hasn't run in about
seven years, but it may still be serviceable, with some work.
Here you can see the major damage, caused by a tree falling on it several
years ago. The hood and left fender are badly damaged, and the windshield
and right side glass were broken.
The interior suffered from the glass being out over the last few years. It
could be worse though, considering. The bench seat is in fairly good condition.
Mel is displaying the roots we found growing through the floorpans and carpet.
With the interior out, you can see the floor pans are badly corroded. Mel is
attempting to remove the last screw holding the door sill plate on.
We later reinstalled the interior, and managed to raise the three remaining side
windows. The passenger door window frame was fitted with a cardboard cutout
in place of glass, and covered with plastic. I used an old cracked windshield
from my V8, duct taped in place, to finish enclosing the interior. The car
was then covered to keep my parents' house from looking too much like a junk
yard. With the cover on, you can't tell it's not a perfectly good classic
Mustang.
